Food For The Skin

Here are a few simple facial masks you can make at home in your own kitchen which are perfect for the skin...
Avocado, Yoghurt & Honey Facial Mask ...
(For Dry/Dehydrated Skin)

Things you’ll need:
  • 1/2 ripe Avocado
  • 1 tablespoon of Natural Honey
  • 1 tablespoon of All Natural Yoghurt
Mash the avocado with a fork into a clean bowl until you get a creamy texture. Then add one tablespoon of natural honey into the mixture along with one tablespoon of all natural yoghurt, make sure you mix the ingredients in well until you have a smooth creamy texture.
Now, wash your face gently with warm water and pat dry, making sure the face is clean, then apply the mask onto cleansed skin and allow the mask to set for 20 minutes. Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry.

What’s good about this Mask? This is an excellent mask for people with Dry/Dehydrated skin, as the mask is enriched with loads of skin-loving vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Avocados provide nearly over 15 essential nutrients, which includes: potassium(known as the youth mineral), fiber, Vitamin A, E, B-vitamins, iron, fatty acids, essential oils, alpha and beta-carotene. Yoghurt is a gentle cleanser which contains lactic acids which helps to soften and soothes the skin, it can also help to tighten wrinkles and refining pores. Honey helps to reduce swelling and inflammation and also has the ability to kill germs.

    Apple & Honey...(For Oily/Acne Prone Skin)

Things you’ll need:
  • 1 Apple
  • 2 tablespoon of Pure Honey
  • 1 Egg White
Grate the apple into small pieces (or you can use your blender if you have one). Add in the pure honey and the egg white and mix until you get a smooth paste. Apply the mask onto cleansed face, relax and leave it on for roughly 15minutes. (It is also normal to sometimes experience a light tingling feeling, so don’t worry). Using warm water, rinse mask off completely then to close up the pores, rinse face with cold water.

What’s good about this Mask?
Apples are rich in Vitamin A (which rejuvenates and replenishes skin cells), Vitamin B (which reduces blemishes), Vitamin C (repairs skin cells from free radicals and environmental damage).  The malic acid in green apples is a natural alpha-hydroxy which gently exfoliates dead skin cells, leaving your skin looking brighter. Honey helps to moisture the skin and also helps to hold the mask together. Egg whites have the ability to tighten enlarged pores.

Papaya & Kiwi...(For All Skin Types)

Things you’ll need:
  • 1 Unripe Papaya
  • 1/2 Kiwi
  • 1/2 Lime
  • 2 tablespoons of Natural Honey

Using a sieve, mash the kiwi through it into a bowl, then squeeze half of the lime juice into the bowl. Scoop out the flesh from the papaya fruit and either mash it with a fork or you can press it through the sieve. Add the 2 tablespoon of natural honey, mixing until paste. Apply this mask to the face, avoiding the eye area, and leave it on for 20minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

What’s good about this Mask?
Papaya has an enzyme that helps to break down dead skin cells, plus it smoothes and polishes your skin. It also reduces brown spots and blemishes. Kiwi is high in vitamin C and antioxidants, making the skin looking brighter and nicer.

Have fun making these masks, it is sometimes really fun to experiment and come up with your own combination of fruitful masks =)

The Newspaper Nail Design

Absolutely loving this nail design...Its soooo easy to achieve aswell.
First of all, you would need:
  • A pair of scissors to cut out pieces of the newspaper
  • Newspaper (does not necessarily have to be newspapers, could be bits from a text book or comic strips)
  • Base coat
  • Light coloured nail varnish
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Top coat nail varnish

Step 1:
Apply the base coat on your nail (this would help to protect your natural nails)
Step 2:
Make sure your nails are completely dry, then paint your nails with a light coloured nail varnish (i suggest a light coloured nail varnish, so the letter appear more visible)
Step 3:
Wait until the nail polish is dry, then pour some of the Rubbing alcohol into a small container or tub, and dip your nail into it.
Step 4:
Taking the pieces of newspaper (or comic strips) press it onto your nail firmly for about 10-15 seconds, then slowly peel it off
Step 5:
Then apply a top coat of clear nail varnish (this would help to prevent the newspaper words from rubbing off or smugging, and would also provide shine to the nail.

And there you are, your own newspaper nail design =)

How to fix a broken compact?

Have you ever dropped your make-up compact before?or for some reason, the powder inside is all crumbled up?!...I have, and sometimes it does put you off from using it again. However don't go out and buy a new one, because there is a easy solution that you can do at home to fix it =) (this trick works for almost anything that is powder, E.g eyeshadow, blusher, highlighters...)

Step 1

As you can see, mine is quite damaged =S but no worries, first thing you would need to do, is using the end of a spoon (does not have to be a spoon, as long as its hard enough to crush up the pieces it would be fine). So using the end of a spoon, crush up all the big bits into pieces...

Step 2

Once you've crushed up all the pieces, use a spoon to flatten the powder...after flattening the powder, you should get something that looks like this...

Step 3

Now, you would need some rubbing alcohol, i used Boots, Surgical Spirit B.P, you can purchase this in any Boots store, think it cost around £5.
Next, i poured some of the alcohol into the cap (for easier control)

Then, i slowly poured it into the make-up compact (make sure you pour it evenly around the compact)

then you should get something like this

Step 4

Using a cotton pad, place it over the compact (it does not necessarily have to be a cotton pad, it can be paper, cardboard, or even old clothing material you don't need anymore, as long as it covers the compact).

After covering the compact, using a spoon, press firmly until you get a smooth surface.

Then let it air dry for afew hours, and its good as new, and ready to use again =)
